A mandatory neutering plan for cats in Belgium

The Council of Ministers approved two projects related to Royal Decree multiannual plan “Cats”, which provides sterilization of domestic cats in several phases. The project aims to stem the growth of the cat population, which increases annually by 6%, says the Health Minister Laurette Onkelinx in charge of Animal Welfare. From 1 September 2012, all cats had to be neutered, identified and registered before adoption. From 1 September 2014, this will be extended to breeders and citizens.
